About Me

At this point I think I’m as close to a musician as one can be without knowing how to play a single note. With countless hours logged in vans, jam spaces, recording studios, back stage, and in front of mixing boards and computers, I have been there for the ups and downs with many of those who play the right notes. After spending so many hours working in the industry and making little money, I have finally decided I might as well just give my advice away for free to anyone who cares to read/listen. In case you stumble on this, and we have never actually had the pleasure of meeting, here is a bit of background on me:

management
Not content with simply managing a venue (Ceilidh Connection R.I.P.) back in 2003, I soon began to become more involved with the careers and lives of the musicians I met. Eventually this led to the release of several albums through my label Tumbleweed Entertainment, numerous tours, and even a few music videos. I still continue to try and convince myself that my B.Sc in Psychology is being put to good use every time I take on a new act.

booking
Over the years, I have organized shows in my living room, record stores, an Internet cafe, numerous outdoor locations, and venues across North America. I have had the pleasure of dealing with solo musicians, duos, trios and even acts with string sections. Whether it was their first gig at an all-ages cafe or the beginning or end date of their national tour, I have helped to oversee the booking, promotion and production of hundreds of shows.

festivals
In the past, I have overseen the production of five outdoor festivals within Halifax known as the Tumbleweed Festival. Each festival was free in admission and was intended to showcase the all-ages music scene within Halifax, typically involving both local and touring acts.

record stores
I have also spent years working in record stores, both the rare and beautiful independent ones and the sadly still alive corporate ones. I have dealt with label reps, customers of all ages, consignment of local and touring musicians, and purchased far too many albums for my own financial well-being.

All that being said, I’m just a guy who loves music and most of those who make it. I have no official schooling to give my advice credit, so at the very least I hope my ranting and raving gives you a reason to laugh. However, at the end of the day if it can make you think or help get your music out to people, then I will have done the job I set out to do. Free of charge, as is usually the case in this industry we live and breath.
