Ok Go: the world is their canvas with your help.

It seems the viral video darlings of Ok Go are at it again, and kudos to them for going one step outside of their typical music video hilarity. Above is the video they created while documenting their parade around LA to spell out “Ok Go” on the city map using an iPhone app. As a continuation of this project, they are now looking for their fans to help out by submitting video and online maps they make using the same app. The fan-submitted content will then be used to produce another video later this year, which will hopefully lead to the whole world becoming one giant canvas.

So, at this point you should be asking yourself, how can I beat this?

Fan-sourcing your music video

I came across this beautiful collaboration while reading this Google doc:

the creative internet

Although the doc will undoubtedly ruin my productivity, which was already laughable, for the next few days, this video by Sour will probably make me feel like whatever I do manage to do is rather boring. However, in the hopes of inspiring you, and to illustrate the benefits of including your fans, I thought I might post it. It’s yet again another wonderful example of how current technology, along with creativity can lead to something great without a big budget or a large group of people behind you.

And, of course, a post is something productive for me, right?

8-bit fun: Hollerado – Americanarama

This is just another great example of how to make a music video for cheap. Sure, there was plenty of work put into this (shot in one take!?!), but what else does a band have if not time on their hands to be creative? I bet in a week or two plenty more people will know about the band, and that is worth all the time and effort in the world.
